Western Blotting Troubleshooting – CYANAGEN TIPS – White Bands or “Ghost Bands”

Sometimes, at the end of a Western blotting process, white bands or “Ghost Bands” are on the membrane.
These bands are generally caused by excessive signal generation.
We provide a hint to help you fix the issue.

• Excessive signal generated. Excessive antibodies or loaded proteins can cause high levels of localised signals. This results in rapid substrate consumption at this point. Since there is no light production after this reaction is complete, white bands result. First, try to dilute the secondary antibody further.
